DATA (Design & Technology Association)
Health and Safety Training
Teaching design and technology is both a challenging and an exciting experience. The work environment needs to be safe and secure for staff and students. Best practice comes from staff who are knowledgeable about relevant aspects of health and safety and who, as a result, feel confident in managing and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace.
DATA's standards provide the benchmark in health and safety training for design and technology. They help to ensure that staff are competent and accredited to meet the requirements of the relevant British Standard, BS4163:2014 Health and safety for design and technology in educational and similar establishments - Code of Practice. Codes of practice have special legal status. If an accident is investigated by official bodies such as the HSE, the relevant codes of practice will be consulted alongside health and safety regulations.
These training courses contribute to your school having well-qualified staff, who are empowered to identify hazards and assess risks. They should be able to determine how best to minimise, remove, or control such risks within an educational environment.
